As many of you know, I had to put my best friend and k-9 partner Condor van Hildernisse to sleep yesterday.

I have not had many days harder than that one.

Condor was almost 12 years old and it was his time to go.

He was a very tough dog and I had many successes with him.

He always did what we asked him to do and if he didn’t really want to do it he would let me know, usually by biting me.

He was a true friend until the end.
I was very especially proud of him when I went to Holland last summer.

When my friends brought me to their German shepherd club they introduced me to the members and when they were told that Condor was my partner they shock my hand even harder.

Condor had such a reputation in the club that everyone was afraid of him.

They remembered him 10 years later.
I think they were thanking me for taking him off their hands.
They had many stories of him and how unforgiving he was.
Many of us also saw that side of him.

Condor was a wonderful ambassador for police K-9s and did so in all of the demos we did with him.
He always impressed the people at the demos.
I learned so much from him by just being around him.
It was a pleasure to work him and see what he could do.
When we competed in the national championships in Taunton and Alabama he delighted the crowd by going up on the 6ft wall and just standing there on the top.
He looked straight at the crowd and eventually came down.
The top of the wall was approximately 4 inches wide and he balanced himself on it.
What he was meant to do was go over the wall, stand and then come back when called.
But he did it his way.

The support I got from all my friends in the K-9 world was over whelming.
Many of them were there for me at Angel memorial in Middleboro when I brought his body to be cremated.
One thing about K-9 officers is that they do this job because it is the best job in the world but being able to work with a dog as a partner takes all the negatives of the job away.

Sleep well my friend and guard the gates of heaven for us all.

p.s. put in a good word for me.

  Hello Barney,

We are very sad to hear that Condor passed away.
He will be remembered as one of the best working dogs we had ever bred and seen.
We wish you and your family a lot of strength with the loss of Condor.

Thank you so much for given Condor such a great life.

Bye bye Condor ............ we will never forget you !!!
